Aka Akasaka, the name behind Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Oshi no Ko, is working on new manga series. The announcement itself is exciting enough, right? The thing is, he’s working on not just one, but two new projects! And that too, don’t forget, that he’s still juggling Märchen Crown.
So, three active projects at the same time?
Yep, it’s a hefty workload! And the announcement has fans split between excitement and concern. But the mangaka is known for swinging between brilliance and divisive storytelling, so I’m guessing we will end up getting something brilliant when the projects launch.
Now let’s talk about the two new manga series that Aka Akasaka is working on. The first is CRBR: Crazy Raccoon Battle Royale. As evident from the name, it’s created in collaboration with the Japanese esports team Crazy Raccoon.
Aka and the Crazy Raccoon team are the ones behind the original concept. Hiromono is handling story composition, and Andou is in charge of the art. The setup is a shonen action series with competitive gaming.
The manga follows a boy whose life spirals into gaming after the loss of his older brother. It drags him into a mysterious, high-stakes battle royale by Crazy Raccoon themselves. You can find more about it on this X account or on Shonen Magazine.
The next project that Aka revealed is also another collaboration. Karubi Momareru is getting created with Shiromanta, the author of My Senpai Is Annoying. The series takes inspiration from V-Tuber Akami Karubi, who is also part of Team Crazy Raccoon.
Described as a ‘super high-calorie comedy,’ the manga leans into Karubi’s larger-than-life online persona. Shiromanta is on manga duties, with Akasaka contributing to the original concept alongside Karubi herself. Find more about it on their X account or on Shonen Magazine.
They haven’t revealed any release dates yet for any of the mangas. It will be exciting to see how Aka is shifting to writing from his usual job of drawing. Until the series release, read our scoop on Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Is Getting an Anime Adaptation, Titled ‘Sekiro: No Defeat.’
