Akutami Gege, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, has announced a new manga only weeks after his hit series wrapped up. This time, Akutami Gege will be handling the writing and Yuji Iwasaki, the artist behind Cipher Academy, is working on the illustrations of the new manga.
The upcoming project is titled Mimojuro. It will be a short-term serialisation starting next week in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 41. The first chapter will be out in the September 8th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.
Hints of this project first appeared during Jump Festa 2025 when Akutami teased that something new was in the works. At the time, he didn’t reveal the details yet.
The announcement might feel sudden to some of us, who are reminiscing about the end of Jujutsu Kaisen in September 2024. That series ran from 2019 to 2024 and became one of Shonen Jump’s biggest titles, drawing comparisons to Naruto and Bleach.
The collaboration with Iwasaki also adds to the excitement!
Cipher Academy debuted in 2023 with writing from Nisio Isin and art by Iwasaki. It became popular for its sharp puzzle-focused storytelling and detailed artwork. Having Iwasaki handle the visuals means Akutami won’t be stretched thin juggling both writing and art.
