If you loved Child of Kamiari Month, the hit anime from 2021, I have some good news for you. Its extension, Beast of Kamisari Month, has just dropped a pilot film. The new anime from Child of Kamiari Month’s creator, Toshinari Shinohe, was revealed at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

The anime was announced during the ‘Co-creating Cultures for the Future’ program, which wrapped up on October 13th. Known in Japanese as Kamisarizuki no Kemono, the film also dropped new concept visuals, giving us a glimpse of its mythical narrative.

Beast of Kamisari Month serves as a companion piece to the 2021 anime Child of Kamiari Month (Kamiarizuki no Kodomo). The earlier film explored the myth of nation-building on Izumo’s Benten Island from the Kojiki, Japan’s oldest historical record.

Meanwhile, the new story ventures further back into mythology to depict the myth of nation-creating set on Onokoro Island in Awaji. It’s a place often regarded as the birthplace of the Japanese archipelago.

The official tagline, “The story of a beast that races to the place that gave birth to the island nation,” ties the two stories together. The concept art for Beast of Kamisari Month shows Onokoro Island with a serene yet mysterious atmosphere that reflects its mythical origins.
