Square Enix just dropped an enhanced opening movie for Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. The game is making its return later this month, on September 30th. It will launch across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
Players on the original Switch will also be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version at no extra cost. The remaster brings back the tactical RPG classic first launched on PlayStation in 1997 with some enhanced features. A modern polish and a choice between two modes
The remaster brings two modes. One is an enhanced version with new features, while the other is a faithful recreation of the original. The enhanced version includes a revamped UI, auto-save, fast-forward options in battle, tactical view, and difficulty adjustments.
They’ve also added a new ‘Squire’ difficulty for a gentler introduction. The remaster also restores sound novels that were cut from the original English release, now accessible by acquiring books in-game.
Meanwhile, the classic version faithfully recreates the 1997 original along with the War of the Lions translation. Yes, it gives you the option to relive the game as it first appeared.
Battles remain tactical and turn-based. You get over 20 job classes and more than 300 abilities to unlock. The progression system lets you customise your squads in countless ways. You get roles like black mage, dragoon, and thief and jobs such as geomancer and time mage.
Several members of the original development team have returned for this project. Kazutoyo Maehiro is the director, and Hiroshi Minagawa is the art director. Yasumi Matsuno, who handled the original script and scenario, is also part of the team.
