The live-action adaptation of Satoru Noda’s Golden Kamuy is bringing the second film in the series. The new movie is titled Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison, and it’s set for release on March 13th, 2026.

Kento Yamazaki is back as Saichi Sugimoto, the former soldier known as the Immortal Sugimoto, while Anna Yamada returns as Asirpa. She plays the Ainu girl who journeys with him in search of tattooed human skins that reveal the location of hidden treasure.

Familiar faces from the previous movie are back as well. Go Ayano, Yuma Yamoto, Asuka Kudo, Shuntaro Yanagi, Ryohei Otani, Taishi Nakagawa, Kazuki Kitamura, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Arata Iura, Hiroshi Tamaki, and Hiroshi Tachi are all part of the movie. Alongside them, it will also feature Gordon Maeda.

Alongside the announcement and the full list of cast and crew, the team also revealed a teaser visual and a trailer. The teaser visual highlights Sugimoto and Asirpa holding guns against a backdrop of flames, alongside the figure of Nopperabo. On that note, why don’t you watch the trailer right here?

What happens in Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison?

The story centres on the infamous Abashiri Prison, a location described by Satoru Noda himself as a major turning point in the series. Nopperabo is said to be held within this prison. The storyline continues Sugimoto’s quest to find the gold of the Ainu people.

On the production front, CREDEUS is handling production once again. It’s the same company that previously worked on the Kingdom films and National Treasure. Kenji Katagiri is directing the movie, while Tsutomu Kuroiwa returns to write the script.

The music of Golden Kamuy: Attack on Abashiri Prison is composed by Yutaka Yamada. Ainu culture and language supervisors Hiroshi Nakagawa and Debo Akibe are also part of the team, continuing their involvement from the first film.

The entire team, including the director, producers and actors, are quite excited for the upcoming release. Just like us, I guess! If you want to know more about what the team said about the movie, you can read it here.
