Jujutsu Kaisen ended its run in September 2024, a conclusion that came faster than many fans expected. After delivering the magnum opus, its creator, Gege Akutami, has announced a spin-off of Jujutsu Kaisen, called Mojuro.

Here’s the scoop!

JJK dominated the shonen scene throughout its serialisation. So, once it wrapped up, readers were left wondering what Akutami would create next. Answering to their queries, he has revealed his next manga, Mojuro.

Akutami had once shared that he wanted to make a manga inspired by his idols, but the demand from fans was clear. They wanted more from the Jujutsu Kaisen world. So, he started working on Mojuro, which will continue in the same universe. But unlike JJK, it takes the form of a short series.

The manga will run for about half a year, collected into three volumes. Its debut is locked in for Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41. The first chapter will be released on September 7th, 2025, with digital readers able to access it on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump and Shueisha’s Mangaplus.

As for the story, Mojuro focuses on the next generation. It will follow Yuta Okkotsu’s grandson, Okkotsu Tsurugi, and granddaughter, Okkotsu Yuuka. With Yuta and Maki confirmed to have lived long lives before passing away, the narrative will see their grandchildren step into the spotlight.

What did Akutami say about his Jujutsu Kaisen spin-off Mojuro?

In a message shared by Myamura on X, Akutami revealed that throughout Jujutsu Kaisen’s run, he had been approached with offers for spin-offs by other creators. He turned most of them down, fearing the story could spiral out of his control.

But when the idea of Mojuro came about, he realised that placing it in a parallel line to the main story could provide room to experiment without diluting the original. After several planning sessions, the idea took shape, and he brought in Yuji Iwasaki as the artist. Akutami praised Iwasaki’s talent, calling his art superb.

He also stressed that while Mojuro is tied to Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s not exactly a direct sequel. Instead, it’s positioned more like a parallel timeline that branches off from the original. That way, Mojuro maintains the essence of Jujutsu Kaisen but creates enough space to explore something new.

Meanwhile, fans are coming up with all kinds of theories. You can learn what people think about the announcement on this Reddit thread.
