The upcoming live-action adaptation of Sakamoto Days has dropped its first glimpse with a new teaser. We’ve also got details of the film’s cast. Apart from the new teaser video, new visuals are also part of the announcement.
The film’s official website announced that Fumiya Takahashi will play Shin Asakura. Shin is the protagonist’s former partner and a mind-reading esper known for his sharp instincts and intense combat style.

The teaser shows both the younger version of Tarō Sakamoto and Shin Asakura in the middle of a gunfight. It captures the dynamic between the two assassins before Sakamoto left the underworld.

Ren Meguro, a member of the Japanese idol group Snow Man, plays Tarō Sakamoto. It’s the once-unstoppable assassin who left the underworld to live a quiet life running a neighbourhood store.
Meanwhile, for Takahashi, who plays Shin, Sakamoto Days is his first major action role. He has previously appeared as Ryuji ‘Yuka-chan’ Ayukawa in the Blue Period live-action film and as Aruto Hiden in Kamen Rider Zero-One.
Sakamoto Days is based on Yuto Suzuki’s hit manga
It began as a one-shot titled Sakamoto in Jump Giga in 2019. Later, in November 2020, it launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in. The series has since grown into a massive franchise with 24 collected volumes as of October 2025.
The live-action film is directed and written by Yūichi Fukuda, best known for his work on the Gintama and Under Ninja adaptations. The film’s action scenes are being handled by Keiya Tabuchi. His credits include Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, the live-action Attack on Titan films, and Kamen Rider Amazons.
Sakamoto Days is slated for release during Japan’s Golden Week holidays in 2026. It’s a festive season that runs from late April to early May. You can learn more about it here.
