The sequel to There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… is gearing up for its theatrical premiere in Japan. It’s releasing on November 21st, 2025. This one is titled There’s No Freaking Way I’ll Be Your Lover! Unless… ~Next Shine!~.

The five-episode continuation of the anime has released a full-length trailer that offers a first look at returning cast members. You can also get to hear the new theme song, Dear My Special Precious Marvelous Sweet Darlings. Watch it right here!

What can you expect from ~Next Shine!~?

From the trailer, it looks like the sequel has a lighter, more heartfelt tone compared to the main series. Following the anime’s finale on September 23rd, 2025, the sequel was announced immediately. The team had also confirmed limited theatrical screenings across Japan before its eventual television broadcast.

~Next Shine!~ will adapt Volume 4 of the original light novel. Natsumi Uchinuma, known for her work on More than a Married Couple, but Not Lovers, returns to direct the project at studio MOTHER.

The team behind the first season is largely intact. Naruhisa Arakawa continues handling the series composition after previously working on This Art Club Has a Problem!. Character designs remain under the direction of kojikoji. Yoshiaki Fujisawa, recognised for his compositions in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, is back to score the sequel’s soundtrack.

The story follows Renako Amaori, a former shut-in who tries to reinvent herself in high school by joining the friend group of Mai Oduka. Mai is the most popular girl in class and misreads Renako’s actions on the rooftop as suicidal intent.

All of these lead to an emotional exchange that transforms into a confession of love. To figure out their feelings, the two decide to treat their relationship as a game, comparing what it means to be a best friend versus a lover.
