Devil Hunter Star System Explained
In short, to rank up, you need to earn 5 Stars, which you gain through EXP and occasionally an objective.
During the Tutorial, you’ll earn your first 5 Stars and reach the next rank.
Occasionally, when you’ve reached 5 Stars, you won’t rank up because you need to complete a quest requirement before prestiging. By hovering over the Chainsaw when at 5 Stars, you can view the requirement that you must complete to Rank Up.
Also, you are always at risk of losing your Stars. This happens if you die to a powerful Devil or player. Losing Stars may sometimes result in losing your Rank. When this happens, you are locked out of using any Technique/Contract Skill which requires a higher Rank.
Stats System
Each Star earned corresponds to 5 Stat Points, which you can invest into one of six stats:
- Strength: Increases overall Weapon DMG and enhances Weapon Skills.
- Health: Increases players’ maximum HP allowance and refines their defensive Skills.
- Speed: Increases Movement Speed and allows invisible dashes against slower targets. Also enhances speed-based Skills.
- Resistance: Reduces the impact of status effects and Contract Debuffs.
- Technique: Increases all Skill DMG and improves player precision and advanced Technique Skills.
- Sanity: Increases Contract Devil DMG and Red Soul Bar.
These Stats help refine your build and turn you from a noob into a formidable player, capable of participating in Raids, Boss Fights, PvP, PvE, etc.
Why Are Ranks Important?
Ranks determine what you’re able to do within the game. For example, some Contracts are locked behind certain Rank requirements. These include:
- Sea Cucumber: Amateur Hunter
- Fox Devil: Junior Hunter
- Ghost Devil: First Class Hunter
- Future Devil: First Class Hunter
- Bat Devil: Senior Hunter
- Curse Devil: Senior Hunter
Public Safety Ranks
- Trainee Hunter
- Amateur Hunter
- Junior Hunter
- First Class Hunter
- Senior Hunter
- Semi Elite Hunter
- Elite Hunter
Yakuza Ranks Equivalent
- Trainee Hunter = None
- Amateur Hunter= None
- Junior Hunter = Sworn Brother
- First Class Hunter = Senior Member
- Senior Hunter = Lieutenant Assistant
- Semi Elite Hunter = Lieutenant
- Elite Hunter = Senior Advisor
If you choose to abandon Public Safety and join the Yakuza, you’ll have a different Rank Title, but you will need to earn higher Ranks in the same way (through EXP and requirements).
Before joining the Yakuza, you must first become a Junior Hunter and then complete the entry quest for the Yakuza Boss. After enlisting, you cannot undo this action, and you’ll remain in the Yakuza permanently.
However, this comes with some added benefits, such as access to certain Contracts which Public Safety can’t unlock. This includes the Snake and Zombie Contracts, as well as the Katana Man Hybrid.
In exchange, you can no longer Contract with the Curse, Future, and Shark Devils.
