Reverse: 1999 has been around for less than two years, yet has boasted a number of collabs and updates already.

We were lucky enough to talk to the dev team of the game about what the 1.5th anniversary update includes, future plans for the title, and much more besides.

So a new update for Reverse: 1999 is coming soon, what can players look forward to? What is one of the best rewards up for grabs in this latest update for players?

There will be great rewards, including a free garment for Windsong, a total of 40 free summons (including 10 summons for the time-limited banner), and garment discount coupons worth 390 Crystal Drops.

Players who have logged in for over 365 days can also claim a random 6-star character, with additional rewards based on the number of days they’ve logged in. There’s also a powerful new Limited Character – Liang Yue. She’s a diligent yet adorable Arcane Affairs cadet who can summon the mighty mythical beast “Qiangliang” with her brick phone and cast a series of powerful arcane skills. We hope she’ll become a strong ally for players.

So Liang Yue – can you tell us a bit more about how their creation came about?

In Reverse: 1999, we celebrate retro cultures from around the world. It shows traditional Chinese customs and architectural styles taking root in new environments and taking on a whole new form. In this cultural fusion, Liang Yue—both the master of the Xiandao Beast “Qiangliang” and a vigil—helps us present and interpret Chinatown culture. Her design went through intense brainstorming, where we evaluated countless concepts to find the most compelling vision. After creating multiple drafts and refining them through continuous discussion, we finally arrived at Liang Yue’s truly unique appearance.

What challenges did you face when putting this latest update together?

We maintain high standards for every update, which naturally makes our production process more challenging. At the same time, since each of our updates contains rich content, including performances, music, and videos, coordinating resources and keeping production efficient is quite demanding.

What are your team most proud of with this new update?

We always prioritize top-quality content. Whether it’s in storytelling or visual design, our goal is to give players the best experience possible. For this update, we’ve refined every detail—story, art, gameplay, and more—to deliver even better content.

The game has been out for a year and a half now (globally), and already has a large passionate following – what do you attribute this to?

At Bluepoch, we think like creators. While we pay attention to market competition, we’re equally focused on expressing our team’s creative vision.

Our rigorous content standards help us develop ideas that genuinely stand out in the market. Moreover, our entire team shares a commitment to maintaining a cohesive creative direction, ensuring these ideas shine through in every aspect of the game. This is how Reverse: 1999 maintains its unique identity and why players recognize and remember that uniqueness, giving the game its own special place.

Why has Chinatown been chosen as the new main focus of this version update?

Chinatown represents Hollywood’s romanticised vision of the mysterious East while serving as a popular tourist destination. It’s also a place filled with tension and dramatic potential. Through this theme and the game’s Dushuo Festival, we want to show how ancient traditions and cultures adapt to modern life and how they maintain their vibrant energy when seen through a cross-cultural perspective. We hope players will enjoy this exploration!

What does the future hold for Reverse: 1999 in the future after this latest update?

We will continue to focus on content development, constantly improving our stories and gameplay. Our goal is to deliver higher-quality content and more flexible gaming experiences, ensuring Reverse: 1999 stays fresh and continues to meet everyone’s expectations.
