While food is entirely subjective, here are my picks for the top 5 dishes in Dungeon Meshi! They all look delicious, and despite their unique recipes, can easily be transferred into real-life cooking.

The Top 5 Dishes in Dungeon Meshi That You Can Make Yourself
It’s no secret that the dishes in Dungeon Meshi are made to look delicious. Our instincts tell us to chow down on the plates of food, despite knowing what’s in them! It doesn’t help that the food in the anime looks realistic and replicates what we eat in the real world.
Still, I reckon with a few substitutes here and there, you can cook up the same dishes at home. Unless you have direct access to Basilisks, Giant Frogs, and Changelings…
Mandrake and Basilisk Omelet – Episode 2
Ever had Omurice? Well, it’s just like that but without the rice. Cut open in the middle, the folded omelet made from Basilisk eggs reveals chopped mandrakes and Basilisk bacon.
There’s definitely a way to have this dish in real life. Maybe with an easier-to-get vegetable to replace the Mandrake and another form of meat or meat supplement though, of course!
Let’s Cutlet the Dragon to Pieces! – Episode 10
Slightly morbid, but if you ignore the fact that it’s made from a Giant Frog, you can imagine it as any type of meat cutlet wrapped in Panko breadcrumbs.
The cutlet is placed atop a delicious sauce made from onion and red wine, which is a much more realistic addition to this dish. I’m not sure if it’ll give you the courage and strength to fend off a dragon after eating though.
Man-Eating Plant Tart – Episode 1
A delectable savoury tart made from a variety of man-eating fruit plants. From the looks of it, this tart appears to be more like a quiche than anything else, so you can more or less imagine what it tastes like.
The fruit is cooked down in a soup consisting of scorpions and slime (yummy). I don’t recommend eating the ‘pastry’ part of this tart though, as it’s made from the peel of the less-than-savoury plants.
Changeling Dumplings – Episode 24
A unique dish to say the least. It’s more about the cooking process than how the dish turns out in regards to the Changeling Dumplings. If they don’t go through a Changeling vessel (such as a gargoyle, which was used in the anime), the ordinary dumpling won’t transform into something else entirely.
The whole point of passing these parcels of goodness through a Changeling is so that it can alter the appearance and flavours of each one. For example, in the show, we see a cheese dumpling, a mystery meat dumpling, a sweet dumpling, and a dumpling filled with Barometz meat!
Tentacle Gnocchi – Episode 10
A somewhat simple one to round off this feature. If you didn’t know what it was made out of, you’d think it was a regular plate of pasta.
It’s basically spaghetti with gnocchi, but instead of pasta, it’s tentacles. You then use the rest of the tendrils to make the gnocchi. Garnish with chilli and garlic, and sprinkle in some meat from a Giant Frog, and there you have it!
