These are the best manga series to read if you like Nana! Nana’s main genre is Josei, which is targeted towards older readers, tackling more mature aspects of relationships and life.
Keep up to date with the iconic Ai Yazawa by following her on Instagram! Did you hear about the Nana Perfumes that recently came out in Japan?
4 Manga Series to Read if You Like Nana
If you like Nana, you should try these series out! I’m guilty of picking two other manga series by Ai Yazawa, but trust me, they’re so good.
Paradise Kiss
One of the reasons why I’m putting Paradise Kiss in this list is that it’s another piece of work by the legendary Ai Yazawa. But the main reason I’m including it is because, in my opinion, it’s one of the best Josei stories out there.
Similar to Nana, it tackles the more mature side of relationships with adult themes. Plus, the cast of characters is unique and eccentric, much like the members of Black Stones and Trapnest.
If you enjoy the manga, you can also watch the anime adaptation, which is an incredibly stylish and sleek series with one of my favourite anime OPs ever – stream ‘Lonely in Gorgeous’ by Tomoko Kawase!
Tomorrow I Will Be Someone’s Girlfriend
This manga series covers the stories of multiple characters, following their lives and the trials and tribulations they go through.
Their lives are not what you’d call ‘peaches and cream’, and it’s a perfect mix of romance, drama, and heartbreak.
It features very mature themes, regarding trauma and the darker sides of being an adult. If you want something that isn’t just a happy-go-lucky romance, this is the one for you.
Firefly Wedding
Firefly Wedding isn’t anything like Nana, but it does cover a more adult side of romance (very Josei-core). For starters, Shinpei Gotou is madly in love with Satoko.
The problem is… he’s an assassin who finds it all too easy to kill people. Then there’s Satoko, who is, by all means, the complete opposite.
Shinpei is utterly devoted to protecting Satoko at all costs, but that doesn’t exactly mean she’s safe from all danger.
Watch their relationship bloom as they both find themselves in precarious life-or-death situations.
Neighborhood Story
Another series by Ai Yazawa! This one is much happier-go-luckier than Paradise Kiss and Nana, but it still features that iconic flair and style.
If anything, it’s a bubblier version of Paradise Kiss as it largely focuses on themes of fashion, with a sprinkle of romance.
If you’re a fan of Ai Yazawa, I recommend checking out all of her works, including Neighbourhood Story.
