If you’re feeling blue (da ba dee da ba die) about the recent rumours, and want it cleared up, then look no further than this article! Here, I’ll be telling you if the blue skin in Heartopia is real, and how to trigger it if so, and any other secrets you may want to know about the Winter Frost event.

Is The Blue Skin in Heartopia Real?

In short, not yet. As of February 6th, blue skin is not a cosmetic in Heartopia. But wait! It will be, so let me explain.

Over the coming weeks, more of Heartopia will become Frostbitten, leading to more creatures to explore than just the four Frostspore fish for week 1. This includes birds, bugs, and more fish.

But that’s not all. There are three locations (that I’ve found) around the map which give the ‘Cold’ status effect. These areas include:

Near Dorothee’s Clothing Store

Head down the side street to the side of Dorothee’s Clothing Store. Here, you’ll get the cold status effect.

Near Bob’s Furniture Store

Similar to Dorothee, the side street next to Bob’s Furniture Store also gives you the cold status effect.

The Path To Onsen

Closer to the heart of the Winter Event, the underpass leading to the Old Sea coast, NPCs, and Azure will give you the cold effect.

There may even be more locations, though I haven’t found them yet. Typically, if you can see wind breezing through an area, the Cold status effect will follow.

Discord Server Commentary

Mei Mei (Bunny) from the Heartopia Discord cleared up the rumour by saying:

IT IS NOT currently obtainable. You will eventually in the future receive a mail that triggers the hidden quest.

This confirms that we will get the blue skin, which, if I had to guess, will be introduced in the coming week of the Winter Event.

When checking the limited collection, there are hints at more beastiaries becoming Frostspored, including birds, bugs, and more fish. With the Frostspore infection spreading at large, it’ll only be a matter of time until players can become blue, too!

What Does Cold Do?

Right now, nothing. It appears on your screen as a hint towards the next step in this event, and nothing more for right now. When you get cold, you’ll see the snowflake icon, and by hovering over it, you’ll see the text:

Brr, its cold! Feels like I might catch a Frostspore infection.

Will Blue Skin Be Permanent?

This part I’m not sure of. It depends on the trigger and whether the game considers it a new cosmetic or a side effect from a buff.

For example, the Rainbow Blessing effect applies a buff and is recognised for its confetti-like aura that envelops the affected player. This only lasts 30 minutes, however, so it isn’t a cosmetic.

The blue skin might be a buff with a temporary effect, or a recognised cosmetic that you can change at a mirror for a more permanent and cool look.

All that said, I really hope it is going to be permanent. Heartopia offers a lot of cosmetic accessories that aren’t typical human attire. So, leaning into that, it’d open up cool avenues for players to create mythical creature-inspired avatars.

As well as this, it could potentially imply a full rainbow of colours for skin options in the distant future across other updates. Exciting!
