The 2025 Gintama Multiverse Festival kicked off with not one but multiple updates this weekend. Right at the top is a completely new Gintama anime movie announcement. And immediately after is the long-awaited premiere date for 3rd Year Class Z Ginpachi-sensei.
It’s great news for you if you’ve been following Gintama since the early 2000s!
The upcoming film will once again adapt the Yoshiwara in Flames arc. The arc first appeared in the TV anime back in 2009 and spanned episodes 139 to 146. The announcement was made through a new trailer, which gives evidence that the new adaptation isn’t just retracing the old material step-by-step.
Warner Brothers Japan confirmed in the new trailer that the movie will include appearances from characters who did not originally show up the first time. New Gintama the Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames is targeting a 2026 theatrical release, which aligns with the 20th anniversary of the television anime’s premiere.

Onto the second biggest scoop!
The staff also confirmed the premiere of the 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei spinoff on October 6th. A new trailer and key visual are also available. Natsumi Higashida is directing the series, with chief direction from Makoto Moriwaki.
The series composition is by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and “To be determined MarkII”. Character designs are by Shinji Takeuchi.
The promotional video gives the first preview of the opening theme Sakurakaze by BOTCHI BOROMARU, and the ending theme Underclass HERO by LONGMAN. The spinoff takes the characters Gintoki, Shinpachi and Kagura away from Edo and places them in a high school setting. Take a look at the trailer below.
