Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, one of the most popular games in FromSoftware’s catalogue, is getting an anime adaptation. The studio made the announcement at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. The upcoming anime series will be called Sekiro No Defeat.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice won the Game of the Year award in 2019 and has sold over 10 million copies globally. While some fans wondered if a sequel is in the works after a new web domain for Sekiro was spotted earlier this month, that isn’t the case.

Crunchyroll has confirmed the Sekiro Shadows Die Twice anime announcement

Crunchyroll will stream the anime worldwide in 2026, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus. Arch is producing the overall project while Qzil.la is handling the actual production.

The series is being directed by Kenichi Kutsuna. He has previously worked on multiple popular series such as Naruto Shippuden, Paranoia Agent and One Punch Man, although this is his first time directing a full series.

The rest of the production team includes Shunsuke Fukui as Deputy Director, Kaito Moki as Chief Animation Director, and Takashi Mukoda as Action Animation Director. Takuya Satou is handling the script, Takahiro Kishida is working on character designs and Shuta Hasunuma is composing the music.

The anime series will bring back the original Sekiro Shadows Die Twice cast. Daisuke Namikawa is voicing Wolf. Miyuki Satou is returning as Kuro the Divine Heir and Kenjiro Tsuda is reprising his role as Genichiro Ashina.

Meanwhile, players are a bit divided about the reveal trailer. That’s due to its bright colour palette and colour blocks, which are quite different from the game’s dark, muted tones.
