After five years, the world of smoke, stars, and friendship from Poupelle of Chimney Town is returning to the big screen. Its sequel has been confirmed for a Japan release on March 27th, 2026. A new teaser trailer and visual were also revealed alongside the announcement.
The sequel is titled Poupelle of Chimney Town: The Promised Clocktower (Entotsu-machi no Poupelle ~Yakusoku no Tokeidai~). It continues the story from the 2020 STUDIO 4℃ film, which was based on Akihiro Nishino’s picture book project.
Yusuke Hirota, who directed the first movie, returns to lead the production once again at STUDIO 4℃. Meanwhile, Akihiro Nishino himself is back as executive producer and screenwriter.
The teaser offers an emotional glimpse into what’s to come. It opens with Lubicchi standing in a misty forest, with his new companion Moff standing beside him.
Two new mysterious characters are introduced as well. One is a woman with red hair and vivid decorations, and another with striking green eyes who rides behind Lubicchi’s plane.

The cast returns to Poupelle of Chimney Town: The Promised Clocktower, too!
Masataka Kubota, who previously voiced Poupelle will reprise his role as the heartfelt garbage man of Chimney Town. In case you don’t know, he voiced Ken Kaneki in the Tokyo Ghoul live-action films.
Opposite him, 10-year-old Yuzuna Nagase joins the cast as Lubicchi, replacing the first film’s Mana Ashida. It marks her debut as a voice actor.
The film’s synopsis describes Lubicchi’s grief after Poupelle’s disappearance and his accidental entry into the Millennium Fortress. To return to his world, he must restart the stopped clock tower, sparking a new adventure driven by the hope of seeing his friend again.
