The Detective Conan franchise has set a new benchmark in Japan with its latest theatrical release. The Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway anime movie has climbed to the top of the weekend box office. It debuted on April 10th.
The film not only secured the number one spot but also delivered the strongest opening weekend performance the series has ever seen. Figures shared through the franchise’s official X account show that the film generated more than 3.5 billion yen. It’s equivalent to US$21.91 million.
This collection is just within its first three days in theatres, alongside 2.31 million tickets sold. The release was also the widest in the series’ history, rolling out across 526 theatres as the 29th instalment in the series.

The film is directed by Takahiro Hasui, known for Mob Psycho 100 III. Takahiro Okura handled the script after working on Case Closed: The Million Dollar Pentagram. Music composition is by Yugo Kanno, whose credits include JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and PSYCHO PASS.
The story draws from Gosho Aoyama’s manga, which first appeared in 1996. It has since grown into an anime series spanning over 1000 episodes. Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway is the 29th anime movie in the series.
The story revolves around a mysterious and uncontrollable black motorcycle that begins appearing across the city. It draws attention from both the public and law enforcement.
Conan, Ran, Sonoko, and Kogoro travel to the Minato Mirai district alongside motorcycle enthusiast Masumi Sera to attend the Kanagawa Motorcycle Festival. The situation escalates when a black motorcycle suddenly leaps over the group’s vehicle.
It prompts a high-speed pursuit led by Chihaya Hagiwara of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police Traffic Mobile Unit. But the chase ends unsuccessfully after Chihaya’s motorcycle is wrecked, allowing the mysterious rider to escape.
