The official website for Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199 Anime released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Chapter 6. It carries the subtitle Aoi Meikyu, translated as The Azure Labyrinth. The movie will have a theatrical release in Japan on June 26th, 2026.
The official X account for the series also shared a second teaser visual for the upcoming chapter. It’s illustrated by Kia Asamiya, who is the illustrator for the Yamato 3199 series. The visual shows the Yamato flying through the sky over Tokyo with Tokyo Skytree visible in the background. It’s accompanied by the tagline What’s that? UFO?
Alongside the visual reveal, Bandai Namco Filmworks’ official YouTube channel uploaded a short PV. Titled Yamato Appears in Tokyo in the Reiwa Era, it depicts the Yamato appearing in the sky above Tokyo in 2026 while people on the ground react in surprise and record the moment using their smartphones. Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199 is a seven-chapter series consisting of 26 episodes. It draws its story foundation from the 1980 feature film Be Forever Yamato, incorporating elements from the third original TV series Space Battleship Yamato III. The latter aired from 1980 to 1981.
The 3199 series has been receiving theatrical releases in Japan since July 2024. The main staff for the project includes Original Story by Yoshinobu Nishizaki and General Production Supervisor and General Writings Supervisor Shoji Nishizaki. It also includes General Director Harutoshi Fukui, Director Yamato Naomichi, Series Composition and Screenplay by Harutoshi Fukui.
The story takes place beginning in the year 2207 and later transitions to the year 3199. In 2207, two years after Gamilas and Iscandar vanished, a massive object known as the Grand Reverse appears and easily breaks through Earth’s defenses.
