Japanese Harp Seal Character Sirotan Is Getting Its Own Anime Series This Year!

Sirotan, the beloved Japanese seal character, is getting a new television anime series. It’s planned to premiere in Japan in the fall of 2026. The production team has launched an official website, an X account, a teaser trailer and a visual to mark the announcement.

Sirotan is an original character by Creative Yoko, a Japanese company that plans and sells general merchandise and pet products. A harp seal, it was created in 1999, with the first picture book published in 2004. Later, in 2017, a 24-episode web series titled ‘So Many Sirotans’ streamed on YouTube.

But now, Sirotan is getting a proper anime series!

The project will feature Aoi Yuki voicing Sirotan. Aoi voiced the character in So Many Sirotans as well. The planning and production are by TV Asahi and Shin-Ei Animation. Animation production is being handled by Lesprit With You and the Rain, which is part of the Shin-Ei Animation group.

Arisa Okada serves as director for the series, and Sei Yoshistuki is responsible for series composition and scripts. On that note, watch the new trailer for the upcoming Sirotan anime series below. The trailer shows his friends, too!

Who are his family and friends?

Sirotan is a young harp seal, white in colour, designed by Ema Yamada. Sirotan, in Japanese, means Little White. He resides in Northern Iceland, and his favourite activities include napping and swimming in the ocean.

There are four members in his family, including his mother, his father, his older brother and his grandmother. In addition to his family, he has six close friends: Kametan the turtle, Penta the penguin, Usamomo the rabbit, Irukakun the dolphin, Mokota the sheep, and Bakketan the toy bear.
