Patlabor: The Mobile Police is dropping a new movie series soon, which I’m sure you must be aware of if you’re a fan of the franchise. The anime is Patlabor EZY File 1, which is making its debut in Japan on May 15th, 2026.
And with the release date approaching fast, the production team has dropped a new trailer and a key visual for Patlabor EZY File 1 anime. The preview offers an early listen to its opening theme, which features newer creative voices.
For the first instalment, the opening theme song Reimei Compass is performed by Mori Calliope of Hololive English. Mori is a VTuber whose contributions include Go-Getters for Suicide Squad Isekai and LETS JUST CASH for Gachiakuta. According to Mori, Reimei Compass draws inspiration from Futuristic Lovers, the opening theme of Mobile Police Patlabor Early Days.
Meanwhile, the ending theme Baton is by Mariko Nagai, known for Miracle Girl from Yawara A Fashionable Judo Girl. Nagai has shared a personal anecdote about how her short hairstyle at the time was inspired by Izumi Noa.

What’s the structure of Patlabor EZY File 1 anime?
It’s an eight-episode series with three theatrical chapters. File 1 is scheduled for May 15th, 2026, followed by File 2 on August 14th, 2026, and File 3 in March 2027. The first two chapters, covering episodes 1 through 6, take an anthology approach with standalone stories.
The final chapter brings episodes 7 and 8 together into a continuous narrative. The individual episode titles for File 1 are ‘The trend is #Second Platoon’, ‘There’s daydreaming in the idle’, and ‘The real thing is best’.
File 2 includes ‘Wine and bullets’, ‘Asakis dream’, and ‘Survival of love’, while File 3 concludes with ‘Toyland Part 1’ and ‘Toyland Part 2’. The production is based on original work by HEADGEAR, with Yutaka Izubuchi directing at J.C. Staff.
