Square Enix has confirmed that both Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II are making their way to Nintendo Switch 2 as a bundle. The announcement arrived during the Octopath Traveler series’ eighth anniversary broadcast.
There’s a new trailer revealing that both games will launch in Western regions on October 1st, 2026. Meanwhile, in Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2 versions are now available. You can buy each game separately in both physical and digital formats, while a bundle containing both titles will only be available digitally. Digital pre-orders for the individual games and the bundle are now live.
Needs no introduction, actually
The original Octopath Traveler takes you across the continent of Orsterra, a world filled with everything from dense forests and desert settlements to towering snow-covered cathedrals. It features the series’ signature HD-2D presentation, combining retro-inspired 2D character sprites with detailed 3D environments.
The game features eight different travellers, each with their own personal story. Some set out to discover themselves, while others are driven by revenge or other ambitions. Every journey begins in a different location, depending on the character you choose.
Octopath Traveler II moves the adventure to the completely separate world of Solistia. Once again, there are eight main characters, each with unique backgrounds and motivations. They travel through dangerous regions, fight enemies in strategic turn-based battles, and deal with the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing industrial era.
The Nintendo Switch 2 editions have been optimised over the original Nintendo Switch releases with improved resolution and higher frame rates. Square Enix also noted that the HD-2D RPG series first launched on Nintendo Switch in 2018 and has now shipped and sold more than 7 million copies worldwide.
