KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple is getting new manga content after a long time! Isn’t that exciting news? Creator Shun Matsuena has confirmed through his X account that a sequel will begin publication on March 25th, 2026.
Matsuena revealed that the continuation will be titled Tatsujin-hen, also known as Masters Arc. They will release the new series through Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry digital platform. It will mark the first major continuation of the franchise since the original manga wrapped up its run in 2014, more than a decade ago.
Now that new content is on the way, let’s rewind a bit on the original material
Matsuena initially launched a manga called Tatakae! Ryōzanpaku Shijō Saikyō no Deshi in Shogakukan’s Shōnen Sunday Super, where it ran from October 1999 to February 2002. KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple was later developed as a remake of that earlier work and began serialisation in Weekly Shōnen Sunday in April 2002.
The series remained a fixture of the magazine for over twelve years, concluding in September 2014. Across that period, its chapters were compiled into 61 tankōbon volumes. Later, a television anime adaptation produced by TMS Entertainment aired on TV Tokyo from October 2006. It ran till September 2007 and spanned 50 episodes.

The upcoming sequel carries the full title Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Kenichi 2: Tatsujin-hen. It expands on the same world and characters that defined the original run. The original story follows Kenichi Shirahama, a 15-year-old high school student. He has spent much of his life being bullied and feeling physically powerless. His circumstances begin to change after he befriends Miu Fūrinji, a transfer student.
