Mahjong Soul x Sword Art Online collab is now live across Android, iOS and PC. The event is expected to run until around mid-May. There are quite a few things happening in the game during the crossover. Keep reading to get the full scoop.

The main event in the Mahjong Soul x Sword Art Online collab is called Vow of the Sword It actually changes how the game plays for the duration. Mahjong Soul, which usually revolves around standard riichi mahjong matches, is now leaning hard into MMORPG-style mechanics.

You won’t be queuing up for matches like usual. You pick a class first, with options like Mage, Swordsman, or Warrior, and then build that character over time. Matches now feed into a progression system where performance contributes to levelling up.

You get equipment drops with different rarity tiers, and equipping better gear boosts your combat power. The game now feels more like a typical RPG than the usual mahjong grind.

Characters like Ichihime, Yuzu, and Yuen Xiao are still the highlights during the Mahjong Soul x Sword Art Online collab. But as I mentioned above, they’re now in an MMORPG-style setting inspired by Sword Art Online.

Meanwhile, you’ll also see some Sword Art Online characters through the summon system. It includes Kirito, Asuna, Leafa, and Sinon. Each of them comes fully voiced with unique lines, animations, and themed effects.

Over time, it’s grown into a massive franchise, with the anime adaptation beginning in 2012. It has since expanded into four series, along with the 2017 theatrical film Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale.
