A new animated project from Studio Ghibli is set to make its debut inside Ghibli Park this summer.  An original short film titled Night in the Valley of Witches will begin screening at the Orion theatre located within the Ghibli Grand Warehouse starting July 8th, 2026.

It will be another significant addition to the venue that opened in November 2022 in Aichi Prefecture. Unlike many of the studio’s previous works, this production has been developed specifically for the park.

Spend a Night in the Valley of Witches

The story is set within the Valley of the Witches area, a section of Ghibli Park themed around the studio’s witch-related anime. The project brings together Goro Miyazaki and Akihiko Yamashita.

Miyazaki has previously directed Tales from Earthsea and From Up on Poppy Hill. Yamashita has worked as an animation director on Howl’s Moving Castle. The two serve as co-directors on the short.

The initial screening on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026, will include more than just the film. A special event is scheduled from 9:45 AM to 10:25 AM at the Ghibli warehouse.

Following the screening, both Miyazaki and Yamashita will appear on stage to discuss the project and share details about its creation. Attendance for this event is limited to 150 people only.

The website has opened advanced registration for the screening. It’s on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration opens at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 10th.

Have you been to the valley yet?

Night in the Valley of Witches brings the same old Ghibli vibe. While details are limited as of now, the team has dropped a new visual showcasing two characters in a village-like setting. Check it out on their official X account.

Meanwhile, The Valley of the Witches is one of the most popular areas in the park. Of course, it draws from several of Studio Ghibli’s works on magical themes. You’ll see Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle and Earwig and the Witch.
