February 27th, 2026, marks 30 years since Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green first arrived. So, The Pokémon Company chose the milestone to look both backwards and forwards. Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Pokémon, the company has made tons of new reveals.
Happy 30th Pokémon Anniversary!
First, they released a commemorative anniversary video. It highlights the many Pokémon that have accompanied players across decades of adventures. Take a look at it here.
Earlier in the day in Japan, they dropped a separate video featuring the familiar logos of numerous Pokémon species. It’s all imagery that had already appeared across train stations and social media feeds in the lead-up to the event.
Meanwhile, the annual Pokémon Day Presents broadcast carried the larger announcements. Headlining the presentation was the formal reveal of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. They are Generation 10 and the first mainline instalment since Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet launched in 2022.
Developed by Game Freak, the new RPG duo will release in 2027 and will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. Catch the reveal trailer right here.
Meanwhile, the new titles introduce three starters. They’re the Grass-type Browt, the Fire-type Pombon, and the Water-type Gecqua. The trio represents a grass bird, a small fire-type dog, and a water-type gecko, respectively.
Their reveal also confirmed that abilities will return in the main series titles, maintaining a longstanding battle mechanic. Screenshots shown during the presentation provided a closer look at each creature in-game, reinforcing their roles as the foundational choices for Generation 10.
What else is new?
A special 30th anniversary Pokémon Trading Card Game set will release worldwide simultaneously for the first time. In Pokémon Masters EX, the original Red from the classic games joins the roster today, depicted in a watercolour design inspired by early artwork.
Pokémon Legends Z-A Mega Dimensions received a fresh trailer spotlighting new Mega Evolutions. Among them was Mega Garchomp Z, with its corresponding stone available now via Mystery Gift.
The presentation concluded with another reveal. In Pokémon Pokopia, there’s a new Rotom form named Stereo Rotom. The trailer also showed cooking activities, music features, outings, and the game’s notable height limit system. Pokémon Pokopia launches on March 5th for Nintendo Switch 2.
