Loaded title aside, I truly believe that Remnants of Yore has the potential to be the indie game of 2026, and if I want to prove anything in this feature, it’s that this game is made for everyone.
My qualifications for such claims? I do gaming journalism despite the threat of AI. I’ve been here for many years, and plan to be for many more. So, stick with me, and let’s take a look at the game trailer:
Beginning With The Remnants of Lore
Remnants of Yore elegantly weaves together its diverse and attractive themes into a game unlike any other, yet so familiar, so warm, and so cosy.
At its heart, this title is a roguelike about a wizard cat named Yore, who learns the art of bartering, romance, and magic, whilst traversing a scenic lost world with an impending threat.
In typical feline fashion, they claim new stomping grounds in a lost village, completely uninvited, and proceed to get locally adopted into a community of gorgeously hand-drawn mythical residents.
After settling into this cosy getaway, Yore takes over an antique store and begins their campaign into the vast forest wilderness to uncover what oozing threats lie beyond, one which prevents the townsfolk from ever leaving…
Yore a Wizard
Back to the cutest purring protagonist, Yore is a spell-casting menace. At least to any potential threats.
As Yore, players like you and me will have a fun time dealing with customers in the antique store, creating an economy from the loot and litter found during expeditions. Name your price, and the buyers will choose to snatch it up or snap about the cost of living.

Items imbued with potentially evil spirits aside, Yore is also passively helping rebuild the town back into its former glory, one paw at a time.
To do this, Yore needs to head into the ever-shifting winding halls of the rogue-like dungeons, and battle against gruelling entities in diverse real-time combat.
Depending on your preferences, you can synergise melee and spells, or frantically spam your arsenal and hope for the best.
Personally, I’ll probably aim for melee and speed, thanks to the nifty Boons that spawn with choice-based upgrades.
Yore on Tindpurr
Lame puns aside. Let’s wrap back around to the gorgeous NPCs I briefly spoke about earlier.
These diverse and rich townsfolk feel so three-dimensional thanks to their well fleshed out personalities, aspirations, lore, and future goals. And, you can be a part of it. Or at least, I will be.
During downtime away from the fights and thrills of economy, you can learn more about each resident and decide whether you want to befriend them, antagonise them, or offer them pookie status and date them.

The Gameplay Loop
I hardly feel like I’ve scratched the cat tree on what you can do in this game.
It has excellent replayability due to its limitless in-game choices and freedom.
There are so many outcomes to explore between the randomly generated dungeons, townsfolk relations, and rebuilding of the little village. All of which under one common goal, being to save this enchanted area.
