NHK has revealed the release window and new visuals for the upcoming anime series Horror Collector. It will premiere in fall 2026 on General TV. The animated series builds on the children’s novels created by Midori Sato and Norio Tsuruta.

Sato and Tsuruta’s combined work stretches from Sazae-san and Telekinesis Family to Haunted Stories, Ring 0: Birthday, and Orochi. Tsuruta’s reputation as the father of J-horror hangs over the adaptation. Both he and Sato crafted the original with the aim of giving the genre a character who could stand on equal footing with icons like Sadako.

There have been 26 published volumes so far, with a 27th scheduled for December 10th. The series follows Senno Fushigi and Himitsu. Senno is the red-hooded boy who travels from town to town gathering materialised urban legends. Himitsu is the girl capable of bringing those legends into existence.

Their uneasy pursuit of one another unravels alongside the appearances of mutants, curses, and other mysteries. It’s grounded in the same internet culture that fuels creepypastas, cryptid sightings, paranormal threads, and rumours.

Fushigi often finds himself dragged into the fallout when these stories cross into reality. He’s helped by Jimmy, a dog with a human face who acts as both partner and witness as the boy tries to contain each phenomenon.

Coming back to the original work, Kadokawa began releasing the novels in June 2015. He also handled Nico Yuki’s manga version, which ran in Monthly Comic Gene from 2021 to 2022. Yen Press has been distributing both the novels and the manga in English through its JY for Kids imprint.
