What’s the story?

Shinohara’s original Red River manga ran in Shogakukan’s Shojo Comic magazine from January 1995 through June 2002. Over the course of its serialisation, the story was compiled into 28 tankobon volumes.

The manga’s blend of romance, historical drama, and fantasy made it one of the notable shojo works of its era. The story follows Yuri, an ordinary girl living in modern-day Japan. One day, she’s suddenly pulled through time when a mysterious hand drags her underwater from a puddle while she’s out on a date with her boyfriend.

She awakens in Hattusa, the capital of the Hittite Empire in the 14th century BC. Stranded in an unfamiliar era, Yuri encounters the empire’s prince, Kyle, and becomes entangled in palace intrigue and political struggles.
